How to improve your baby's eczema - Part I ♡

Part ☝️

Having had a baby who suffered with eczema for 18 months, we empathise how challenging and overwhelming it can be 😮‍💨

Healthcare professionals are often quick to prescribe steroid ointments, and while these reduce inflammation, unfortunately they are a band aid fix which doesn’t address the underlying cause 😣

One lifestyle factor to consider:
Is your baby’s clothing made from polyester?

Polyester is a synthetic fibre derived from petroleum and is commonly used in various clothing primarily due to its low cost of production, making it more common in cheaper retail stores like Kmart and Best and Less 🛍️

Why is this a problem? 🤔
Babies often find synthetic polyester irritating and uncomfortable to sleep in. For some babies, this material can cause skin irritation, sensitivity, and even trigger or exacerbate eczema 😫 Switching to natural fibres, such as 100% cotton or, preferably, 100% certified organic cotton, can increase comfort and lead to better sleep for both you and your baby 🙌

This is because natural fibers like cotton or GOTS certified organic cotton are breathable, absorbent, and hypoallergenic, unlike polyester, making your baby less likely to overheat or sweat 🥵

Therefore, making this small but impactful change can help improve both their skin and sleep 😍 Some baby brands we recommend and love are @ergopouch and @purebabyorganic 🌸

You can check if your baby’s clothing is made from polyester or “polyester filled” by looking at the tag on the inside of their clothes 👕👖🧢

In part ✌️ we will discuss additional lifestyle factors that could be exacerbating or contributing to your baby’s eczema. Did these tips help? Let us know below! 🫶🏻🩷💫
