Is white noise effective?

When you think of white noise, you might imagine an unpleasant static sound 🗯️ However, while you can choose to use radio or TV static, white noise also includes other soothing sounds such as waterfalls, shushing, thunderstorms, and rain 🌧️

But, is it effective? 🤔
In 2023 @rednoseaustralia reported that researchers found “infants exposed to white noise were more likely to fall asleep quickly (within 2 minutes)” and that infants with colic “experienced a statistically significant decrease in the number and duration of crying episodes”. 😱

White noise is particularly beneficial for newborns and young infants as it can be used as a soothing aid within your wind-down routine, additionally signaling to them that bedtime is approaching 😴

White noise is also beneficial for families with multiple children as it downs out external disturbances that may disrupt each others sleep, particularly if you’re anxious that your newborn will wake your older toddler or child or vice verser 😰. The last thing anyone wants is two babies awake at nighttime! 🆘😩

With that said, if your baby is still catnapping, resisting sleep, or waking frequently overnight despite using white noise, book a consultation or download our Sleep Essentials Guide at www.settletosleep.com.au so we can support you in restoring sleep for you and your family 🩷🌸💫
