How to survive the end of daylight savings (DLS) ♡

😩 While us mums may technically “gain” an extra hour of sleep this weekend as daylight savings ends in the U.S., Canada, Bermuda, Cuba, the Bahamas, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, the downside is that our 5 or 6:00am early risers will now be up at 4 or 5:00am once the clocks shift back! 🆘🫠

You often hear advice to gradually adjust your baby’s bedtime by 10-15 minutes every few days leading up to the time change ⏰. However, this can often be confusing 🫤 and may backfire if your baby doesn’t sleep longer the following day, leading to crankiness and overtiredness 🆘

Instead, we recommend making the adjustment once daylight savings ends by keeping them in their crib for as long as possible to help realign their schedule within the first few days 🥰 For example, if their usual wake time is 7:00am, keep them in their crib until 7:00am (which will technically be 8:00am). Depending on your baby’s age, you can offer a 10-minute bridging nap to help them get through to their usual nap time if they wake up early. Otherwise, continue putting them down at their usual nap times (in corrected time) to help fast track their adjustment 🥰

With that said, if your baby is still catnapping, resisting sleep, or waking frequently overnight, book a consultation or download our Sleep Essentials Guide at www.settletosleep.com.au so we can support you in restoring sleep for you and your family 🩷🌸💫
