The phrase “your baby will sleep when they are tired”. 🙄
I always used to think, “What do you mean? Of course he will sleep when he’s tired.” 🤔
Until we actually had Noah, and he would cry and cry, and we could never figure out why 😥. He couldn’t be tired because if he was, he would sleep, right?! 🫤 Wrong! 😰
Newborns, in particular, don’t have a circadian rhythm, so it is up to us to establish an age-appropriate routine and create an environment conducive to sleep 🥰. This includes ensuring they are fed, changed, and dressed appropriately for sleep, while also using other positive sleep associations such as white noise and blackout blinds to promote sleep 😴
Newborns will usually fall asleep easier due to residual maternal melatonin 😴. However, this gradually diminishes after a few weeks 📉, at which point we need to support their melatonin production by having a dark sleeping environment 🥰🩷
