This hormonal imbalance can increase hunger and appetite, potentially impacting your child’s sleep and eating patterns 😩

Two independent studies also found that both adults and children experiencing sleep deprivation tend to opt for high energy dense foods that are low in nutrients, like chips and lollies 🍬 over healthier alternatives 🥗. This preference may contribute to the development of fussy eating 😫🆘.

Hyperactivity, irritability, and difficulty concentrating are common signs of sleep deprivation in toddlers, which can adversely affect their eating habits, health, and overall well-being 😣. Therefore, it is important to maintain a consistent sleep routine to support their health and development, including the regulation of their appetite 👏🏻 . Please also be mindful that if your toddler is consistently overtired, they may show increased fussiness, a reduced appetite, or find it difficult to settle due to exhaustion and fatigue 🥱.

Below is a general* guide for the total amount of sleep your toddler needs each day. Please keep in mind that these recommendations do vary depending on their age, temperament, activity level, and dietary intake:
💤 6-12 months: 2½-3 hours of daytime sleep + 11-12 hours overnight 🌙
💤 12-18 months: 2-2½ hours of daytime sleep + 11-12 hours overnight 🌙
💤 18-24 months: 2 hours of daytime sleep + 11-12 hours overnight 🌙
💤 2-3 years: 0-1½ hours + 11-12 hours overnight 🌙
