While some people believe teething shouldn’t or doesn’t impact your baby’s sleep - I beg to differ 🫣. As a former nurse, I know all too well about diversional pain and how often your baby or toddler may not show signs of discomfort if they are distracted, out at the park, or having a play date 🛝🎨🪇
However, when all of these distractions are gone, such as at night during sleep, they will often start to feel and show signs of discomfort 😣
Our favorite ways to ease teething discomfort are to:
🦷 Offer teething rings to chew on. For added comfort, chill them in the fridge or freezer 🧊
🦷 Massage or gently rub their gums to alleviate discomfort
🦷 Provide cold water to sip on (depending on their age)
🦷 Offer a clean, cool washcloth as a soothing item to chew on
⚠️ Please note that teething gels are not recommended for several reasons. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the presence of local anaesthetics like lidocaine or benzocaine in these gels may lead to adverse reactions if swallowed, including seizures, brain injury, heart problems, or even death.
Instead, we recommend using chamomilla teething powder, such as @weledaaustralia baby teething powder, which can dissolved in water or added to their solids for administration. Another alternative is @wimmerawellness’ topical teething roller blend 😍🥰
Typically, teething pain lasts for a few days ⏰, up until the tooth has fully emerged through their gums. If their pain or discomfort persists beyond this timeframe, it could suggest an alternative cause such as a sleep regression, developmental milestone, or separation anxiety 😥
