We made the mistake of investing in comforters and teddies made from polyester, a synthetic fibre derived from petroleum ⛽️, before we knew how toxic they really were 😰. Stuffed teddies containing foam also contain flame retardants, formaldehyde, and dyes that can enter your baby’s bloodstream in under 30 seconds 😥
Why is this a problem?
As our babies snuggle with their comforters, and often suck or chew on them to self-soothe, they are then exposed to significant amounts of toxins through inhalation and skin absorption 😥. Once inside their body, these microplastics breakdown, releasing harmful chemicals into their blood stream. Additionally, babies and children breathe more air per second relative to their body weight compared to adults, making them even more vulnerable 😥
What can we do? 🤔
We strongly recommend investing in comforters made from natural fibres such as 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton, bamboo, hemp, or linen 🌿. Not only are these materials breathable, absorbent, and hypoallergenic, but they are grown without toxic pesticides or synthetic fertilisers, and are free from microplastics 🥰🙌🏻🩷
